1. Planning & Excavation

Site Prep: Clear the area of vegetation, rocks, and debris. Use stakes and string lines to mark the wall’s location and layout. Excavate the site to the required depth, typically including a trench for the base material and a space for proper drainage

2. Base Preparation

Foundation Layer: Lay a base of crushed gravel or a gravel-sand mix, ensuring it extends beyond the wall’s footprint for stability. This layer should be compacted using a mechanical compactor to create a solid and level foundation
Leveling: Use a level and string lines to check for evenness. The base layer must be perfectly level to ensure the wall’s stability and proper alignment

3. Wall Construction

Building: Start laying the first course of blocks or stones, ensuring each is level and aligned. As you build upward, use a level and a string line to maintain straightness and height accuracy
Drainage: Backfill with gravel or drainage aggregate behind the wall as you build. Install drainage pipes or weep holes at the base of the wall to direct water away and reduce hydrostatic pressure

4. Finishing & Inspection

Capping: Add capstones or finishing elements to the top of the wall, securing them with appropriate adhesive or mortar if needed. This not only enhances the wall’s appearance but also provides additional stability
Final Check: Inspect the wall for alignment, stability, and any signs of settlement or movement. Ensure that drainage systems are functioning correctly and that the wall is performing as intended
